The sole album from a shadowy Parisian ambient master gets a much needed vinyl reissue courtesy of its creator’s own imprint. One of several aliases used by Bernie Swell, Edith Progue’s 2006 LP Timeline was reportedly a “chronological report” of what could only be described as a very emotional day the artist spent in an apartment overlooking the Canal St. Martin in Paris. Each of its 9 tracks signifies a different hour spent in the apartment, organised haphazardly from 12am to 12pm. Consisting of no more than solemn pianos, distortion, and some rudimentary clock-like drum machine patters, Timeline nevertheless does a remarkable job placing the listener in that dark apartment by the water on that day in 2006.
