Yes, it’s a cute bit of wordplay. But Craig Tattersall’s The Humble Bee project caught on to something quite profound with A Miscellany For The Quiet Hours, the inaugural CDr-only release of his own Cotton Goods label back in 2009. Rendered out of tape loops and heaps of patience and ingenuity, the record finds a cosy new home on the Astral Industries imprint, gently planting itself among a trove of little-known ambient essentials. ‘Essential’ just about sums this one up too; granular electronic textures (or field recordings?) pick at and caress each other, making for a listening experience that’s the closest you can get to intimacy without breathing in another physical person’s airspace.
