Second album from Brooklyn's much vaunted Vampire Weekend extends their multi-genre dynamic further and further with often quite glorious results. Ezra Koenig's literate lyricism has been widely talked about but it's their approach to sonic mischief that really appeals. The highlife African guitars are still apparent and now we have flickers of dancehall, R&B auto-tune, rock steady, reggae and full bodied synthtronics. Contra is a tighter, more electric, heavier affair than its predecessor, all the better for it.
