Numinos, an accomplished DJ, author, lecturer, and tech-reviewer in his own right, has surfaced with his debut album on Mille Plateaux entitled Grains. Captured using over 20 instruments (including most notably, an iPad app called Borderlands Granular), Numinos’ LP deals conceptually with the idea of granular synthesis. While at times mesmerisingly polyrhythmic, the subtle kick drums on tracks like ‘tribal house’ and ‘love song’ bring a welcoming center to Grains’ contemplative frequencies.
