Cascadian denizen Scott Morgan aka loscil unveils yet another gorgeous record that feels like an auditory light sculpture. Replete with decayed tones and densely shaded corners, Clara is sourced from a butchered and scratched 3-minute recording performed by a 22-piece orchestra in Budapest, later transformed into an ironically gorgeous record of blissful ambient sound design. We can only speculate as to which arcane art Morgan is channelling as he halts string sections into glacial pastures of far-reaching sound, as strangely propulsive as they are intimately frozen in time. ‘Clara’ is Latin for ‘bright’, and sure enough, there’s a luminous aura coming off this one.
