Producer and musician Jon Hopkins has always thrived even when he’s been away from his mountain of mixers, wires and hardware. Returning to the piano case for the first time since his 2014 release Asleep Versions, Hopkins proves he’s just as versatile and emotive with a single instrument even when he’s playing the music of others. Piano Versions includes four covers of his favourite on-repeat songs, each of which come from a somehow familiar yet totally removed place; Hopkins’ arrangements of Roger and Brian Eno’s ‘Wintergreen’ and Thom Yorke’s ‘Dawn Chorus’ tread lightly along the source material, finding a Satie-esque sensitivity in their hidden depths.
