A breakthrough producer challenging the parameters of UK club music, Forest Drive West’s return to Livity Sound harbours further explorations in stripped-back rhythm. Dualism EP sees producer and DJ Joe Baker’s project unfurl into a gorgeous concoction of dub-infused beats. The title track is a Photek influenced exercise in bare-minimum percussion maximalism, while daubs of space pads send ‘New Day’ and ‘Ritual’ into further reaches of deep house splendour. ‘Scorpion’ featuring Lucky Pereira, with its busy hand-percussion-derived rhythm almost seems like the odd one out here, until a cascade of foggy electronics slips things right into place.
