Post-industrial? Maybe. Experimental? Certainly. In a striking development of the musical aporia she crafted with 2017’s Lack, artist and composer Pan Daijing builds upon her avant-garde operatic foundation with Jade. On a surface level, the electrostatic textures whip and crackle, as Pan’s vocal ekes out melodies from a throng of noise. On a deeper level, these tracks are palimpsests; not songs per se, but craters left in the wake of the creative process.
