Quietly soulful only begins to describe Caoilfhionn Rose’s Truly. Much like her label mates Mammal Hands and Portico Quartet, irresistible fusions inform the Manchester-born singer’s sound from the opening bars of ‘Flourish’, an oneiric place where jazz guitar, ambient soundscapes and folk merge into something beautiful. Rose’s vocal weaves between sweet melody and sprechgesang, recalling something along the lines of Lana Del Rey backed by Talk Talk on the LP’s title track.
