In the broad church of Wu-Tang releases, Czarface holds a special place as being one of the most heretical. Every Hero Needs A Villain, the second LP by rap super-trio Inspectah Deck, 7L and Esoteric, recaptures the essence of 1990s hip-hop in the modern age with all the boisterous wordplay and wit of MF DOOM and Method Man (both of whom feature on this disc). Meanwhile the grizzly, pulpy production brings to mind the underground hip-hop of yore, or a version of Madlib more heavily invested in trawling through fuzzed out 1970s rock records.
