Daniel Miller steps out of his usual role as Mute founder and chairman to butt experimental electronic heads with storied producer and engineer Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Einstürzende Neubauten, Erasure). The collaborative project, entitled Sunroof, pulls together a wealth of works for Electronic Music Improvisations Vol. 1, each a snapshot of a time and place where drones free-wheel and rhythms are concocted on the fly. You can really hear a child-like sense of wonder breaking through, as the two architects of modern electronica turn, pull and poke at their hardware, crafting pieces that spark and pop with vivid colour.
