Muscular, out-there techno hybrids on Blawan & Pariah’s excellent vinyl series. In keeping with his dense back catalogue and his preceding release on Voam itself, Peder Mannerfelt continues to find fresh, inventive ways to make techno sound exhilarating. Here we have three club-ready tracks of alien soundscaping, adorned over off-kilter, banging drum work. ‘Year of the Rats’ encapsulates this approach nicely, with Mannerfelt splicing and interpolating a spoken word sample alongside shunting snares, modular tweaks and expertly controlled intensity. And The Band Played On heads out with two synth-led segues into stark, mind-bending territory on the B-side. Peder Mannerfelt and Voam continue to feel like a very natural match.
