Life Without Buildings released one album and a few singles in their three year existence, and then walked away when it stopped being fun. Any Other City is a joyously expressive and youthful album with well deserved cult status. Released in 2001 on Rough Trade’s Tugboat Records to little fanfare before they disbanded, it has since gathered adulation for its inventive and all round fun take on art rock stylings. Sue Tompkins spritely vocals elevate the tracks beyond their pleasing jangles and slightly mathy constructs into something truly unique, and truly worthy of the acclaim it has garnered since then.
