Genres

Though largely overlooked outside their native Netherlands, Clan of Xymox were remarkably early to the ethereal/darkwave movement of the 1980s, with their self-released 1983 mini-album Subsequent Pleasures earning them a debut self-titled LP on 4AD in 1985. Their John Peel sessions that same year are partly what sealed their legendary status, as the quartet found an audience for their ice-cold, drum machine-driven gloom. But like all the greatest goth rock acts, there’s a hint of Cure-esque pop in the mix, particularly with the Bunnymen croon of ‘Muscoviet Mosquito’.
