Between Soon Over Babaluma and Landed, krautrock legends Can had found themselves at an impasse. Frontman/mystic Damo Suzuki had been out of the picture for 2 years, leaving the remaining quartet in an exploratory phase. Carefully restored from the original tapes, Live In Stuttgart 1975 is a striking document of a group revelling in that flux state. Divided into five parts, the herculean hour-and-a-half record is a slow-burning masterclass in jazz fusion-like atmospherics — and a handy reminder that Can were a foundational force in what would become post-rock some two decades later. In fact, they were post-everything before it was hip.
