London-based New Zealed-Australian musician Jordan Rakei occupies a similar soul and R&B space to James Blake and Frank Ocean, pairing an experimental ethos with shimmering and soulful vocals. Nevertheless, having stepped up for an instalment on the long-running Late Night Tales series, his eclectic taste is fairly surprising. As per the series’ night-time criteria, beautifully chilled out singer-songwriter vibes eke out from the likes of MARO and Connan Mockasin, as luscious washes of jazz coat his Joe Armon-Jones and Snowpoet selections, balancing a deeply moving poetic idiom with gently boundary-breaking approaches.
