Kimochi's first release of 2021 is typically brilliant and unusual. Across the five cuts, Shielding shows a real master of melody that goes way beyond the usual electronic confines. House, bass, trip hop, djembe and ambient all colour the fascinating grooves as the 32 minute trip plays out. There's cosmic stuff on 'Ledig Dag,' deeper, more hypotonic tackle on 'Indoors' and then abstract ambient sound art on 'Vinter.' 'Flader' is deep techno from another planet and 'Altan' closes out by casting you adrift in an ocean of mystic dub.
