Placid One is certainly an apt name; the alias has delivered a number of chilled ambient acid masterclasses from Belgian producer Maximilien Vincent; Slow Motion Race toys with his winning formula by adding a hint of what we can only call late-1990s chill-out vibes. The melancholic house piano jabs and indistinct, ghostly vocal of ‘A1’ has a sly Pet Shop Boys feel, while the rest of the disc unfolds with cool breaks and snowy pads. As always, the wily acid bass makes an appearance, although Placid One has a penchant for letting the entire mix do the heavy lifting.
