Returning to Hyperdub after his 2018 debut Insula, Proc Fiskal’s Lothian Buses takes disparate elements of grime, UK funky, Kuduro & jungle before firing them through a kaleidoscopic lens. Frantic but focussed across six tracks, opener ‘Thurs Jung Yout’ harks back to early eskibeat crossover sounds. Despite being prepped quickly for a gig, the hook in ‘Baguettes’ is borderline anthemic. ‘Choco Frito (Calamari)’ is a sunny venture into Portuguese polyrhythms, followed by a masterclass of airy melodies and air-tight glitchy drums on ‘Scarab Aloph’. ‘HopeTak2’ leans into UK Funky, with ‘Mullit Madollock’ rounding out with a breezy nod to nineties jungle.
