New York experimental icon Eartheater already turned plenty of heads with the release of 2020’s Phoenix: Flames Are Dew Upon My Skin via the venerable PAN label - one of our albums of that year. She then went ahead and reworked the entire album as an ambient mix for Crack Magazine as Phoenix: La Petite Mort Edition proving she’s a singular talent. Finally given the physical release it deserves, this seamless “sleep mix” casts the production in an entirely new light, Phoenix applies tension in different ways without losing any of its visceral impact. The devastating ‘Below The Clavicle’ in particular stuns in its new beatless version, while the overdriven swell of ‘Volcano’ sounds as if it was dipped in magma.
