“Interim Report, March 1979” is Gordon Chapman Fox’s meditation on the brutalist beauty of northern England’s post-war developments Warrington and Runcorn Gordon and the schism between their utopian intentions and the failure of their lived reality. These ambivalent emotions are played out sonically through optimistic nostalgia — ‘Gateway to the North’ — and haunting synth work — ‘Castlefields’ — while a sense of sci-fi runs throughout, working through the conceptual palette of ‘The Town of Tomorrow’ and the ‘Gateway to the Future’.
