Producer, pianist and rapper Alfa Mist is yet another case in favour of the UK’s peerless jazz powers these days. Having landed on the Anti imprint, his third album Bring Backs fittingly occupies multiple realms. Rapper Lex Amor delivers muted, downtempo verses over the noir-ish trumpet of ‘Mind The Gap’, as a stuttering organ carves out pensive chords. Meanwhile, the likes of ‘Attune’, ‘Run Outs’ and ‘Coasting' take on swaggering, smooth jazz propulsion in a manner familiar to Sun Ra in his melodic mode.
