It seems trite to say given the amount of turning points PJ Harvey has taken throughout her career, but Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea is probably her first major gear-change. The accumulated energies of her first four albums led Harvey from the furious intimacy of lo-fi indie rock to guitar-driven pop without shedding any of her countercultural sensibilities. The unapologetic, swaggering sexuality contained within ‘This Is Love’ perfectly marries this grit and immediacy.
