There’s a reason that PJ Harvey’s demo recordings are so enthralling; the artist morphed into so many shapes beyond her lo-fi indie rock roots, and even as she began to incorporate wider arrangements and a uniquely intimate form of phlegmatic big room rock, the DIY impulse never faded.
