Death Is Not The End, in association with Wayne Anthony, Simon Reynolds, Stephen Hedbitch and The Pirate Radio Archive, deliver a fascinating document with London Pirate Radio Adverts 1984-1993, Vol. 1. Consisting of 40 ads, including promotions for a ravers-specific date line, video rental spots, techno and hardcore record shops and covert warehouse events, the antiquated charm of each track is superseded by an overwhelming sense of community fostered across the London rave scene. At its strangest, you’ll hear a hammy false Liverpudlian accent advertise a Friday night pub event — “admission £4, ladies are free” — over a hypnotic downtempo dub beat.
