Four of the most innovative artists in modern IDM come together on Brabuhr Q-ih, a compilation by the fledgling Lith Dolina label. Lith Dolina has been set up by Nic Tasker, the DJ who has also made hay as the brains behind Whities/AD 93. On Brabuhr Q-ih, Tasker demonstrates the same impeccable ear that has helped his other imprint become one of the most respected in contemporary underground music.
While there may be a disparate array of contributing artists here, Brabuhr Q-ih is arranged so that the changes of personnel feel completely natural. Love Horses sets the tone for Brabuhr Q-ih with a pair of expansive productions. Both ‘K Den’ and ‘Beep Of Bodming Mor’ are as playful as their titles suggest, from the restless rhythms which skitter away throughout the tracks to the widescreen strokes of reverb which Love Horses daubs over the synth programming.
The Jaffa Kid picks up the baton from Love Horses with aplomb, utilising some similarly textured pad work on his cuts but pushing his beats more towards breakcore. Whylie’s four contributions then split the difference between The Jaffa Kid’s junglism and Love Horses’ ornate IDM style before Bot1500 closes the compilation out with arguably the two prettiest cuts here - gorgeous, keening keys form the core of both ‘Seabird 1’ and ‘Seabird 2’.
Lith Dolina launches in style with Brabuhr Q-ih, a compilation which brings together some of the finest modern practitioners of experimental electronics.
