Australian producer Tim Koch once again dons a binary record sleeve for another release on Central Processing Unit. Picking up where 2018’s Spinifex left off, Koch’s Tourbillon is as comprehensive as ever in its approach to perpetual-motion, post-acid electronics, likely to menace as well as dazzle. A dislocated rhythmic centre lies at the heart of each track, each upgraded with multiple modifiers of metallic clunks and clatters, but as the likes of ‘Estranger’ and ‘Disfugue’ subtly show, a slow creeping ambient techno synth line is usually skulking in the background — which only adds to the uncanny atmosphere.
