Steffen Basho-Junghans bears no familial relation to neither legendary American Primitivist guitarist Robbie Basho, nor 17th-century Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō. Nevertheless, the striking vision of The Dancer on the Hill invokes the same deep, spiritual connection to untouched nature. It’s easy to imagine the steely poise of ‘Raga Peru’ and ‘Dancing Mountains II’ as acoustic guitar serenades to their titular peaks — or indeed, sonic reproductions of the towering forms themselves.
