Well suited for fans of William Basinski’s seminal decaying tape ambient works, enigmatic producer Black Swan delivers an equally moving piece of longform meditations with Repetition Hymns. A vast suite of interconnecting pieces spread out across two discs of what can narrowly be called ambient music in the vein of Stars of the Lid, the release at times sounds like a lost tape of covert classical recordings, warped, frayed and stretched by the passage of time — indeed much like Repetition Hymns’ listening experience itself, which openly allows for mindful wanderings deep into the recesses of the mind.
