Genres

Having mined pretty deep down into the disparate ambient, city pop, AOR and new age worlds of 1970s-1990s Japan, Light In The Attic show that we still don't even know half of the story. Somewhere Between: Mutant Pop, Electronic Minimalism & Shadow Sounds of Japan 1980-1988 fittingly nestles somewhere in the middle as a Japanese electronic post-punk analogue, in which the icy Human League-esque synths of ‘Arrows & Eyes’ and the drum machine-led pop of Takami Hasegawa’s ‘Koneko To Watashi’ nudges up against the dark environmental music of R.N.A-ORGANISM’s ‘WEIMAR 22’ and the Joy Division-ish austerity of Naoki Asai’s ‘Yakan Hikou’.
