Consisting of members from Shit and Shine, Butthole Surfers and Expensive Shit, USA/MEXICO consist of a group of musicians who have always existed on the periphery of rock music. But the noise rock supergroup outdo themselves entirely with Del Rio, which seems like their definitive musical statement. What’s more, it’s performed with the kind of wide-eyed, anything goes wonderment of a troupe of teens jamming out in a garage. There may well be a conventional, doom-driven rock song structure in the likes of ‘Chorizo’, but it lies in shattered ruins of face-melting noise, the institution of popular music gone up in flames — and it feels so good!
