One of Tbilisi, Georgia’s leading lights in electronic music returns with more reinventions of the genre. Following on from 2018’s year-end list topper Word Color, Gacha Bakradze’s Obscure Languages offers up further levels of sonic manipulations beset by cryptic production wizardry. Opening track ‘Indivisible’ is split in the middle, the first half a spacey evocation full of glassy arpeggios, the second an IDM hard thumper that begs to be scrubbed for every last precious sonic detail. More amorphous tones unfurl on the likes of ‘Driver’ and ‘Lift’, showcasing Bakradze’s ability to whip an icy ambient soundscape into beat-led investigations into what euphoria can sound like.
