Edward Upton ushers in Cultivated Electronics’ 2021 schedule in style with Overseer, his first solo release on the imprint under the DMX Krew moniker. Ricocheting off the back of some stellar remixes and features alongside Sync 24, Overseer is a masterclass in analogue electro with a futurist gaze. The opening title track and ‘Plashingers’ bustle and bubble with hi-low interplay between sturdy rhythms and an untameable lead, while ‘Vacuum Surfers’ extends the mechanistic funk chaos to the low end. ‘Diaspora’ eases the bpm a touch, crafting a slow, heavy build with some crushed bitrate handclaps.
