Copycat Killer sees Bridgers catapulting her originals into a rich, orchestral realm with the confidence of a true musical auteur. Bridgers shows that she has no shortage of artistic and creative fuel; following hot on the success of 2020's Punisher, the highly praised and Grammy-nominated LP earned every accolade it received as well as working in the supergroup Boygenius with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker and one half of Better Oblivion Community Centre with Conor Oberst.

The delicious irony involved in planting Bridgers’ everyday scenes of convenience stores, pay phones and drugstores in a flower bed of luscious instrumentation is a kick in itself. Even in such a grandiose setting of heart-wrenching strings, Bridgers’ grounded tales of modern love and failed romance on tracks like ‘Kyoto’ and ‘Savior Complex’ still resonate in her characteristically cutting lyrical style. What's more, the textural romanticism — recalling the score work of Studio Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi — allows for her unmistakable vocal tone additional layers of poignancy.
