Leila’s 1998 album Like Weather is a landmark in electronic music history, an undisputed highlight of the Rephlex catalogue. Its peerless production style, brazen use of vocals and freewheeling hybridization challenged the status quo, especially as at a time when Leila was one of the few women releasing on the top, electronic music labels. Like Weather has long been out of print, so Modern Love’s reissue is timely. With Rashad Becker behind the remastering, Leila’s experimental pop has never sounded so good.
