Every now and then an artist comes along with a noted agnosticism toward genre and form, willing to seek out new challenges to set a body of work into the multi-disciplinary realm. Indeed, Camae Ayewa’s art under her Moor Mother moniker constitutes a whole nexus of expressions. Circuit City is the musician and poet’s first theatrical work, a multi-part song cycle encompassing poetry, avant-garde performance and afrofuturist jazz, with a profoundly tight backing from Irreversible Entanglements and the Circuit City Band.
