Dinamplatz’s compilation Good, But Not Right promises listeners the sounds of ‘A Rave Pressed To Vinyl’. The record is certainly full of the ardkore breakbeats, drum & bass science and ten-tonne basslines that one might expect from this statement. Across eight choice cuts here a line-up which includes Forest Drive West and Radioactive Man bring their rave productions to wax.

Radioactive Man and Monoak are responsible for Good, But Not Right’s most junglist joints, although the grinding low-end of the former’s ‘Clap Ya Hands’ almost pushes it over into drill ‘n’ bass territory. Meanwhile Forest Drive West’s ‘Falling Upright’ mirrors 2Flex Crew’s ‘Dangerou$’ in slowing down the breaks to create atmospheric broken-beat techno joints. Elsewhere no data available delivers a 303-driven slammer in the aptly-named ‘Acid Rambler’, while Boojiboy’s ‘Devolution’ will delight fans of Devo by slipping the aesthetics of Mark Mothersbaugh’s legendary band into a low-slung electro jam.

As if to mirror the rise and fall of a typical night at a rave, Good, But Not Right is bookended by two pieces of foggy ambient techno. While Alice Ant’s ‘Arp 2’ opens the album with a dreamy combination of halcyon synths and thick bass, Tengui’s ‘Fiyah’ is a distorted, mournful greyscale wash.

The Dinamplatz label brings together junglism, acid house, machine-funk and ambient techno on the Good, But Not Right compilation.
