Indie rock fire-starter PJ Harvey, then firmly within the remit of living legend, and producer extraordinaire John Parish jointly struck gold with 1996’s Dance Hall At Louse Point. Riding the enormous wave of Harvey’s To Bring You My Love, on which Parish cemented himself as a producer-to-watch in addition to a formidable multi-instrumentalist, Dance Hall At Louse Point has the distinct tone of two symbiotic musical figures letting loose in the studio. Their woozy Peggy Lee cover ‘Is That All There Is?’ swings low with the velocity of tears-in-your-beer alternative country, while Harvey’s grizzled croon is allowed to roam free on the likes of ‘Civil War Correspondent’.
