Even the creepy cover art of Lol K’s debut The Breeze isn’t enough to properly clue you in to the alien territory inside. As much informed by drill and UK hip-hop as it is by experimental pop production, ‘Proud’ begins with an ominous drone before unfolding into horror string stabs and a post-punk vocal yelp, punctuated by bobbing kick-snare action, while emcee Coby Sey works some dark magic over the ramshackle noise-hop banger ‘Oilseed Stone’.
