Ana Roxanne delivered a quietly revolutionary work with her 2019 debut ~~~, in which she subtly explored the slippages of gender identity from the oft-overlooked perspective of an intersex person. Her second release, Because Of A Flower, sees Roxanne expanding her sonic palette to explore her thematic fascinations of everlasting, flowing change. Shades of Laurie Spiegel’s spaciousness sift through the blossoming tones of ‘Suite Pour L’invisible’ and ‘Venus’, Roxanne’s vocal soaring between spoken and sung, somewhere in the vastness of interstitial spaces. A stray digitised beat finds its way into ‘Camille’ (which features Ana Recto), bringing to mind Haruomi Hosono’s rhythmic ambient works.
