Having directed Motown’s Electronic Search and Development department, the original vision of legendary bandleader Raymond Scott — namely an early example of AI-generated electronic music — gets a modern reboot from MSG label head, designer and experimental composer Yuri Suzuki. Scott’s Dream - Music From A Reimagined Digital Electronium sees Suzuki revive Scott’s imagined Eletronium instrument with a software upgrade, delivering digitised lullabies across eleven tracks, with more than a hint of terse technological flourishes. Chords swell with sequenced discordance on ‘Just Press A Button’ and ‘A Stimulant To The Imagination’, dancing in deliciously unpredictable directions alongside a squelching, sequenced lead.
