London-based reissue label Foam On A Wave begin their deep dive into the great unsung by resurfacing the unique debut LP of self-fashioned ‘ambient techno’ act Ultramarine. Originally released in 1990, Folk is a kaleidoscopic trip through space and genre, a record brimming with colourful ideas lifted from jazz, electronic and, naturally, folk music. Accordions and clarinets ring out across the trip-hop break of ‘Antiseptic’, while new wave buoyancy informs ‘Bronze Eye’ and ‘Bastard Folk’.
