Adding nicely to the hazy technicolour catalogue of Nottingham’s Wigflex records, Son of Philip presents three synth-led cruisers topped off with a remix by Actress in finest form. Spurred into experimentation by the story of how Cans drummer Jaki Liebezeit was once told to "play monotonous" by a wide-eyed fan, the Play Monotonous EP sets off with meandering, detuned synthesiser melodies on ‘Fast City’. Standout track ‘Rubber Stamp’ posits arpeggio as an artform, with subtle modulation keeping the ears guessing. The title track explores an emotive side of the click & pop of SND, before Actress sparks up in his inimitable way.
