Detroit electro legend Erik Travis returns with a new LP of classic sounds. This is literal, as it happens. ‘Techno Drivers’ was first released in 1998 under Travis’ The Other Side Of Space moniker, and features every bit of his characteristic style; propulsive, vintage-futuristic sonics driven forth by Travis’ inimitable, deadpan vocal. The rest of Legends follows suit, soaking clangorous rhythms, squelching bass sequencers and early-electro sparsity with a cacophony of digitised vocal snippets. A reggae-indebted pace and a distinct digi-slap bass style abound on the likes of ‘Funky Beat’, neatly widening the berth of Travis’ skillset.
