In addition to being studied archivists of electronic innovations of the past, Soul Jazz Records are just as easily one of the purveyors of today’s finest in the art form. Tucson, Arizona’s Trees Speak return to the label with their second LP Shadow Forms, and it’s a release in-line with the label’s perennial interest in anything kosmische and pastoral. The likes of Kraftwerk to Roedelius come to mind with the pulsating, modulated bass of ‘Large Array’, as zippy motorik beats propel ‘Those Who Know’. On the other hand, ‘Tear Kisser’ and ‘Transforming’ unleash a distinctly Popol Vuh-esque beast of organic, freeform rhythm.
