This EP finds three hugely enigmatic musical presences - cult house producer Charles Webster, singer-songwriter/poet Ingrid Chavez and the inimitable Burial - teaming up to deliver a trio of mysterious, shadowy and mournfully beautiful minimal dance tracks.

‘The Spell’ heralds the return of revered house producer and Remote/Love From San Francisco/Miso Records boss Charles Webster. Webster presents two deep, danceable takes on ‘The Spell’ here, one of which features vocals from Ingrid Chavez, the singer-songwriter and poet who ran with Prince back in the 80s and 90s. Both of these tunes are hugely arresting listens - Chavez delivers a potent spoken-word sermon atop Webster’s alluring house production, while the track’s wordless dub allows the hypnotic minimalism of Webster’s instrumental to ferment still further. Webster’s versions of ‘The Spell’ are incredibly spiritual, saying a great deal with only a small amount of material.

Burial remixes are rare things - indeed, their scarcity means that they are all the more notable when they do appear. The mysterious producer has reworked ‘The Spell’, and in doing so he joins the dots between Webster’s sultry house sound and his own greyscale takes on two-step, ambient and dubstep. Burial’s version of ‘The Spell’ maintains Chavez’s vocals but pares back the beat to a pensive minimal techno pulse, one where the sombre synthesisers come flecked with twinkling chimes and little flutters of bass.
