The 3 x 2 EP is a collection of percussion-led club innovations which find a sweet spot between both the bass-heavy soundsystem techno style of its label (Livity Sound) and the UK Funky flexes of the lead artist (Bakongo aka Roska). One finds plenty of bassweight heft and shimmering synth sounds in these tracks - see how a cut like ‘Grainy’ is helmed by its wobbling, dubstep-indebted low-end. However, the polyrhythmic whirl of the beats here means that 3 x 2 not only nestles in alongside the UK Funky and funky house productions of old Roska releases, but also looks outwards to a variety of club sounds going off around the world - Batida, hard drum and gqom to name but three.
