Polish-born Michiganer in New York Jakub Alexander aka Heathered Pearls continues his journey into the slippages of self and memory via fragments of ambient and electronica — an odyssey which started with his 2012 debut Loyal — with Cast. A largely silent studio practitioner, Alexander chose to give Cast a few different voices; Baltra heightens the dubby, house-inflected tension of ‘What Else Do You Want?’ with wandering spoken word impasses, while the searching narrative of Terrence Dixon offers the dark glow of ‘Salvaged Copper’ a guiding light. Meanwhile, Alexander alone eases into his auditory space with the synth swell of ‘Cement Object, Vacuum Sealed’.
