Jack Wyllie (Portico Quartet and Szun Waves) helms yet another new project with moments of sublime ambient bliss and inspired percussion on this self-titled debut release from Paradise Cinema. The dream-like qualities of this LP emerge from the elegant pads, winding arpeggiation and a serpentine clarinet adorning themselves atop frenetic drum patterns and pitched percussion.

While the more dulcet tones across this self-titled debut from Paradise Cinema recall ambient legend Jon Hassell at his most minimal (see ‘Utopia’), what’s most exciting is the frequent use of saba and tama drums courtesy of Khadimn Mbaye and Tons Sambe. Infusing most of the LP with a marching spirit, their relentless rhythmic work evokes a particularly active dream-like quality that’s often hard to obtain.
