Finnish producers Morphology follow up the sci-fi electro wanderlust of 2018’s Traveller with another disc of deep space techno atmospherics for FireScope Records. Across its sprawling length, Horta Proxima succeeds in breaking new ground for the project by abstracting beats beyond the need for a sturdy rhythmic centre. The twinkling arps of ‘Binary Star’ groove nonetheless once a breakbeat line gets going, while ‘Photosphere’ propels itself with electro’s pace and leaves plenty of space in the mix for interpretation. ‘Parsec’ and ‘Luminous Entity’ follow suit with a skeletal kick presence, as computer-glitched high ends invoke less a well-oiled machine and more a driven cybernetic organism.
